“Love Parenting (Even When You REALLY Need a Nap)”

“Discover the Secrets to Total Confidence, Practical Wisdom, and True Joy While Raising Your Little One”

“Perfect for parents who want simple, tried-and-true information – and personal advice – during their child’s early years adventures”

Dear Fellow Mama,

Does it drive you totally crazy that you can’t figure out what’s going on in your child’s head… how to help him or her… even though you’re doing everything the parenting “gurus” say you “must do” to keep your child healthy (and happy)?

Have you ever wondered why moms using traditional western parenting methods seem to have it all together while you’re exhausted and overwhelmed from using gentle, non-coercive methods that are supposed to work better?

Have you ever dreamed of being a real expert on your child, feeling confident with your parenting choices, and being able to enjoy a little “adult” conversation – and time for yourself – without guilt?

If so, I hope you’ll read every word I share in this letter because it could change your life for the next 18 years (and beyond)…

Hi,

My name is Kristen. I’m a wife, mama of 7, and I LOVE mothering my babies and the joy of life with little ones (and the big ones, too 🙂 ).

Unfortunately, I’m not perfect (can you relate?!)…

How I Went From a Frazzled First-Time Mama to a Confident, Well-Informed Parent (and Expert Tot Tamer)

I found parenting babies and toddlers was overwhelming and often not much fun. There were days I couldn’t figure out what was going on in my (definitely cranky and possibly crazy) kid’s head. I wanted to feel confident and calm, parent with gentleness and joy, but all I could do was sit there and sob right along with my little one.

When I was pregnant with my first baby I spent many nights drifting off to warm, fuzzy dreams about how wonderful life with my baby would be. I’d lovingly nurse my baby, wear my baby in a baby carrier, and start solids with only the most perfect foods. As my baby got bigger, we’d go on lots of wonderful adventures – giving my little one the gift of curiosity, self-confidence, and emotional security.

I was so happy when my baby was born – but it didn’t take long for me realize that being a mama was really hard work. I felt tired and sometimes I felt really confused. There were so many “experts” out there, and all of them had a different opinion. I knew that I didn’t want to do things the “standard western” way – baby isolated much of the time, bottles, strict schedules, and certainly no crying it out! I wanted to mother my baby the way that felt right to me… but I also wanted to feel confident about it.

I’d dreamed about motherhood for so long! But sleepless nights (and sleepless days), breastfeeding ups and downs, starting solids, and even my own very different body made me feel, well, exhausted and unsure of myself. Sometimes my baby slept well – but my own worries kept me up at night!

How Smart Mama, Happy Baby Was Born

If you know me, you know I’m a researcher. I like to really dig into things – and mothering is no different. I decided that I’d read everything I could on parenting… so I did. Then I ended up adding on a lot of real-world experience with parenting my own six babies into toddlerhood and beyond. Now I’m on my 7th little “research project” – baby Sadie is 7 weeks old!

You probably know that I love to teach – but having 6 kids (oops, 7 kids!), a little hobby farm, and teaching birthing classes is sometimes a major circus act! Still, I kept hearing questions about baby care and parenting choices from my readers and students, and they all sounded so familiar – how to keep baby healthy and happy, and how to enjoy the crazy journey we call mothering!

Your questions tugged at my heart, because they’re so like my own. And I’ve had the chance to do a lot of trial and error with my little ones. I’ve had big successes and happy days… and I’ve made mistakes and had some pretty bad days. Yes, I’ve spent countless hours researching across 14 years – but I’ve also been there myself, in the middle of motherhood.

In fact, here I am again, with sweet Sadie along for the ride! It seems like the perfect time to be here for you – when not only do I have all my research and experience to draw on, but I’m also right there, walking the mothering journey with you.

I Refused to Accept “Crying it Out,” Terrible Twos, and a Torn Apart House… Now My Babies Are Happy, Toddlerhood is Fun, and My House is (Reasonably) Clean 🙂

Again, I’m not going to lie – there are always going to be days when the house IS a mess, and sometimes your baby will cry, your toddler will cry, and well, you’re going to cry. I still have days where I feel like I’m sleepwalking and I can’t figure out what my kid is crying about! Really, everyone (even empty nesters!) have days when life is exhausting 😉

But most days go well – and they go well without harsh methods OR having to let the kids run all over me and our home.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned in all my years of balancing babies and life is this – you need to do what works for you and your kid.

The problem is finding that place of confidence (and relaxation) in a world full of experts, rigid methods, totally “laissez-faire” methods, and conflicting opinions!

THAT is what I want Smart Mama, Happy Baby to be about – and why I need real mamas (not theories from “gurus” who don’t spend day in and day out with our kids).

There are lots of books on caring for your baby, taming your toddler, and organizing your home. In fact, I’ll share some of my favorites with you. But what you need is a place to get the knowledge AND the confidence to use what works for YOU and your little one(s!).

Bedtime, Breastfeeding, and Boundaries, Oh My! …Real Wisdom for Real Life with Littles

Here’s some of what you’ll discover inside the smart mama club 😉

  • The truth about starting solids: do you really need to start at a certain age – and should you go with purees or baby-led solids? Feel confident that you’re picking the right meals… and raise a little food who loves a variety of tastes and textures
  • How to get breastfeeding off to a smooth start – avoid cracked nipples, mastitis, and back pain (plus meal plans to build a milk supply so rich you’ll think it’s cream!)
  • Handle sticky situations with friends and family with grace, and maybe even a little humor – so your mother-in-law respects your parenting choices… and likes having you around.
  • The real deal on sleep: from newborn to toddler and beyond. Skip feeling like a zombie and enjoy a well-rested child (Bonus: he’ll get to enjoy a well-rested – and much more playful – mom!)
  • Just how smart are our babies and toddlers? Set boundaries that both respect your child’s independence, and her intelligence and desire to be part of a community… so you can stop running interference and enjoy life as a parent!
  • Balancing risk vs. learning – how you can keep your baby safe while fostering development, tenacity, and a willingness to try new things
  • Why gentle routines and respectful schedules are tools you may want to consider – and how to customize them for your family (so you can lose the stress and have fun with a cheerful little one)
  • Thinking it’s time for baby #2? This is what you should consider – and how to prepare your older child for the adventure of being an older sibling
  • Is using elimination communication really worth the hassle vs. the benefits?
  • What makes the biggest impact when it comes to keeping your little one’s environment toxin-free? Should you really go for stainless steel and glass – and how can you make the switch to environment and budget-friendly cleaners?
  • How do you know if your baby or toddler is “normal?” Detailed information that really helps – even if your tot is the first “little kid” you’ve ever been around!
  • Solid strategies for finding time for yourself – while meeting your child’s needs (plus tips for balancing you-time with a growing family)
  • You knew you wanted to breastfeed your new baby – but what does breastfeeding an older baby or toddler look like? How to set gentle limits that give your (bigger) baby all the benefits of breastfeeding while keeping the experience enjoyable for you
  • Essential wisdom: This is the groundwork you must do during toddlerhood so your little one grows into a responsible child and young adult – and both of you feel like the lines of communication are strong
  • Keeping the house (reasonably) clean while mothering your children (so your house feels like a home… andyour home feels like a haven…)

What’s It Gonna Cost Me?

When I first started planning Smart Mama, Happy Baby I wanted to create several different membership programs so you could “pick and choose” what looked right to you:

  • Weekly Baby Q&A Call: $47 a month
  • Weekly Toddler Q&A Call: $47 a month
  • MamaMD: $47 a month
  • Mama’s Almanac $37 a month
  • Meal Plans: $13 a month each
  • Monthly eBooks: $19 each
  • Monthly mini-course: $67 each
  • Age and Stage profiles: $19 each

That’s a huge value at $331 a month…

…but too much for a growing family to pay 😉 That got me thinking – what if I combined everything into a comprehensive membership club just for mamas (okay, daddies can visit too!)? I could pull it all together and discount it by 70% – only $100 🙂

Then I realized I really want to help mamas as possible – and for that I needed to get mamas into the club!! Because it’s important to help as many mamas as I can, I took another 70% off to make this the most accessible membership club as possible at $29.97 🙂
